   CCTV.COM   2003-08-05 12:08:56
Philippine police filed a complaint against an opposition senator and about 1,000 unnamed people on Monday for their alleged involvement in last week's failed mutiny.Senator Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan is the highest official so far to be implicated in the July 27 uprising.

Interior Secretary Jose Lina and police officials have accused Honasan of involvement in the 19-hour uprising. Aside from Honasan, only six other military officers and civilians were named in the complaint.

Honasan has denied any role in the mutiny, but has gone into hiding to avoid arrest.

Shortly before disappearing from public view, he delivered a speech before the Senate last week denying any hand in the uprising. But he did say that the mutineers' complaints of corruption in the military and the government were legitimate.
