Chinese President Hu Jintao meets Russian President Putin

    Chinese President Hu Jintao has met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at a country house outside of Moscow. Hu Jintao arrived in Russia on Monday afternoon for his first overseas trip since he assumed office in March.

    Hu Jintao was expected to exchange views with Russian President Vladimir Putin on international issues and cementing bilateral ties.

    He will take part in the third summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states in Moscow during his visit.

    Hu Jintao will also attend celebrations marking the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city of St. Petersburg during his three-day state visit to Russia.

    Hu Jintao says he is very happy to pay a state visit to Russia at the invitation of President Putin.

    While Putin said,“Russia is very happy to see that such an experienced statesman has become President of the People's Republic of China. He also says Hu Jintao is not only an experienced statesman, but also a person with a special feeling for Russia."

    Hu Jintao says that he is confident his visit will definitely achieve important results and that he'd like to thank President Putin and his wife for their kind invitation."

    This is Hu Jintao's first foreign visit since becoming the president of China in March.
