Russian President Vladimir Putin has lashed out at the laxity of the military in the wake of Friday's suicide bombing at a military hospital in North Ossetia, southern Russia. At least 50 people were killed. Putin vowed the blast will not derail his peace plan to end the decade－long war in Chechnya.
Under the push by the Russian president, the military has heightened security throughout the North Caucasus Military District, including Chechnya and its surrounding regions. Large trucks are barred from entering military communities and the grounds of military hospitals and clinics.
Meanwhile, the search for victims has been called off. After sifting through the shattered remains of the four－story hospital, rescuers said there was no hope of finding more survivors.
