   CCTV.COM   2003-05-31 15:05:55
Singapore has today been taken off the WHO's list of SARS-affected areas, after 20 days with no new cases. The Singapore Ministry of Health says that the decision to lift the ban recognizes the comprehensive and rigorous measures that have been taken to control the spread of SARS.

Local media hailed the declaration that Singapore was SARS-free as a "milestone" in Singapore's SARS battle, and a great victory in the national efforts to control the epidemic. The Ministry of Health said Singapore will continue its efforts to control and isolate SARS patients.

The statement warned that the possibility of an imported case sparking new clusters of SARS cases in Singapore could not be discounted. The world could only be safe when every country has SARS under control.

Meanwhile the government will take all measures to prevent the export of the disease, and Singapore will continue to work closely with WHO and other countries in the region to combat SARS.
