NPC Chairman meets Thai delegation in Beijing

    NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo met on Thursday with a large delegation from the Thai House of Representatives. The Deputy Speaker of the House Suchart Tonjaroen reiterated Thailand's long-standing support for the One China policy.

    Shaking hands with the Thai delegation headed by Suchart Tonjaroen, the deputy speaker of the Thai House of Representatives National Assembly, NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo spoke highly of the Sino-Thai relationship. He said the two countries were good neighbors and partners.

    Wu Bangguo hoped that the delegations' visit would make a further contribution to the current bilateral relationship.

    The deputy Thai speaker, who had previously visited China 10 years ago, said he was impressed by China's progress after its modernization and reform.

    He said the Thai parliament attaches importance to regular exchanges between officials from the two sides, and that he and the Thai parliament had respect for the One China policy.

    Since diplomatic relations between China and Thailand were established in 1975, there have been frequent exchanges and cooperative efforts in the areas of science, culture and the military. Among the South Eastern Asian nations, China is currently the biggest direct investor in Thailand.

    The large delegation will visit Shanghai and Hainan before leaving China at the end of the month.
