A gas pipeline has been put underneath the Yangtze River as part of the ambitious West-East Gas Pipeline Project. The progress made in the huge project has received high praise from foreign experts.

The West-East Gas Pipeline Project is one of the major pieces of infrastructure in China's 10th five-year plan. The most advanced operations have been introduced to fully utilize the existing technology while maintaining standards of quality. The project's management has implemented cooperative supervision from abroad. From the very beginning, the project's quality, investment and the rate of progress have been under the scrutiny of both domestic and overseas inspectors.

A Chinese member of the supervisory team added that the whole project was going well and that everything was on schedule. It's estimated that the Shanghai leg of the project will be finished by the end of this year. By January 1, gas will be flowing directly from Chongqing Gas Field to Shanghai.
