ASEM members vow to boost economic cooperation

    The Asian and European Economic Ministers meeting in the Northeastern Chinese city of Dalian has concluded three days of discussions. Chairman of the meeting, Chinese Minister of Commerce Lu Fuyuan said the meeting had achieved the desired results.

    Chinese Minister of Commerce Lu Fuyuan said the ministers agreed that ASEM countries should join hands to revitalize the economy in Asia and Europe as well as the rest of the world.

    The ministers agreed to promote exchanges and understanding of enterprises in ASEM countries and help the enterprises establish a direct mechanism for dialogue.

    EU trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy said the ASEM meeting can be seen as a miniature of the World Trade Organization.

    Thailand's minister of commerce said cooperation among ASEM members should be facilitated.

    The ministers also pledged to play an active part in supporting the new round of WTO trade talks.
