Hoping to bridge the development gap between China's richer East and its inland less developed Western regions, businesspeople from both areas are talking about pooling their resources.

More than 4,000 businessmen from 17 countries and 21 Chinese provinces have converged in Xining, the capital city of China's Northwestern Qinghai province, for this year's trade and investment fair for promoting the economy of China's West. The fair, sponsored by the country's 18 provinces and municipalities, aims to accelerate the existing cooperation between China's rich and poor areas.

The sponsors said that businesses from the richer areas should help their Western neighbors to tap into their tourist resources, promote their unique products, and speed up the commercialization of their scientific and technological achievements.

Attendees are invited to participate in more than 300 projects on offer at this year's fair.
