An Airbus A-319 landed Wednesday morning at the Xiaoshan international airport of Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, marking the entry of this type of aircraft into the fleet of Air China.

The plane will be operated by the Air China Zhejiang Branch on busy lines linking Hangzhou and Wenzhou, another economically prosperous city in Zhejiang, with other cities nationwide, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Dalian.

Sun Yude, deputy president of Air China, said that the 128-seatpassenger plane is ideal for short- and medium-range flights and will help cut the cost of training and maintenance.

A senior Airbus official said that China is an important marketfor the airplane manufacturer and that Air China is an important partner.

Airbus has been steadily expanding its China business since entering the country in 1985. Currently, 180 Airbus aircraft are operating on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao.
