Chinese are putting their money where their mouth is. A recent survey by a Beijing－based research company shows English training is a big draw this summer.
In Beijing, the number of people taking English courses at their own expense has reached 500,000 every year, with a profit of nearly 250 million US dollars. Age and economic status span a wide range. The majority are people who want to study abroad and those preparing to take the national post－graduate examination.
More and more Chinese say they believe that English is important for career development, since China has entered the World Trade Organization.
