After the most extensive repair project since 1949, the Forbidden City in Shenyang, the capital city of China's Northeast province of Liaoning, is now ready to welcome tourists with its new look.
The repair came as a part of the local government's effort to prepare the old palace to qualify for World Heritage. Experts from UNESCO are coming in August to see if the old palace makes the grade. As the predecessor of the Forbidden City in Beijing, the old palace in Shenyang witnessed the rise the Qing Dynasty, China's last Emperors.
