China snatches fourth diving gold medal in Barcelona

    China has snatched its fourth diving gold medal at the world swimming championships in the Spanish city of Barcelona.

    China's defending diving champions, Guo JingJing and her partner Wu Minxia, won gold medals in the women's three-meter springboard synchronized event on Sunday at the 10th FINA World championships. In the men's ten-meter platform synchronized event, Chinese favorites Tian Liang and Hu Jia won the bronze medal. And Australia's world champion Ian Thorp won the gold medal in the men's 400-meter freestyle.

    Australia's world record holder and defending champion Ian Thorpe powered his way to win the men's 400-meter freestyle event at the 10th FINA World championships on Sunday. With the victory, he becomes the first swimmer in the world to win the event during three consecutive world championships.

    In the women's 400-meter freestyle, German Hannah Stockbauer won the gold medal. In the Women's "4 times 100" meters freestyle relay, the US team won a gold medal. In the Men's "4 times 100" meters freestyle relay, Russian Alexander Popov, three times an individual world champion, became a relay gold medallist for the first time when he led Russia to their first world "4 times 100" meters freestyle victory.
