Tajik-Russian Trade Drops 36 Percent in 2001
MON, FEB 25, 2002
Trade between Russia and Tajikistan dwindled 36 percent to 234 million U.S. dollars last year as compared to 2000, Tajikistan's State Statistics Committee said in a report Sunday.

A negative balance emerged in the country's export-import operations with Russia, as Russia exported to Tajikistan goods worth 129 million U.S. dollars and imported a 104 million dollar worth, Tass said, citing figures released by the committee.

Russia, which is a major foreign trade partner of Tajikistan, accounted for 16 percent of exports and 19 percent of imports of the Central Asian republic last year.

The bilateral trade reduction in 2001 was going against the background of a slump in Tajikistan's trade with countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States by 20 percent, or 198 million dollars, according to the committee.
