India's Foreign Exchange Reserves Cross 50 Billion Dollars

India's foreign exchange reserves crossed the 50 billion U.S. dollars during the week ended February 15, 2002.

The reserves have increased substantially over the past decade to 50.208 billion dollars, the highest in the history of the country.

According to the Reserve Bank of India's weekly statistical supplement issued Saturday, foreign currency assets also pierced the 47 billion dollars barrier to touch 47.29 billion dollars, witnessing a rise of 437 million dollars.

During the past four weeks, the foreign exchange reserves increased by 1 billion dollars.

Meanwhile, special drawing rights increased by 5 million dollars to 10 million dollars while gold reserves remained unchanged at 2.913 billion dollars.
