U.S. Company to Build Golf Course in Southern China City
THU, FEB 21, 2002
A U.S. company signed an agreement with the government of Beihai Wednesday to build a golf course and supporting facilities in this coastal city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Under the agreement, the 36-hole course will cover an area of about 200 hectares and will be completed in three years.

James Pope, vice-president of Orlando Leisure Development Group, said that the main reason for choosing Beihai as the location for the golf course was that golf is becoming more and more popular in China, and the city has a unique coastal landscape.

Further international cooperation following China's entry to the World Trade Organization will ensure the success of the project, he said.

There are three golf courses in Guangxi's scenic Guilin City, playing an important role in boosting local tourism and economic development.
