Cambodia, Philippines to Launch Food Security, Agriculture Partnership

Cambodia and the Philippines have agreed to launch a "food security and agriculture modernization partnership" under the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) umbrella, said a press release issued in Phnom Penh Tuesday by Cambodia and Philippines.

The release was issued after Jose de Venecia, Philippine Speaker of the House of Representatives, concluded his six-day official visit to Cambodia Tuesday morning.

The two parliaments have agreed to create a joint parliamentary friendship committee, the press release said.

They also will launch a Cambodian-Philippine Business Council and direct flights from Manila to Siemrieap's well-known Angkor Wat in northwestern Cambodia, it added.

The Philippines have planned to establish rice warehouses and rice milling facilities and develop a 10,000 hectares of rice plantation in Cambodia to be dedicated to Philippine requirements.

It also wanted to set up a computer school in Cambodia and to carry out a joint oil exploration on Cambodian territory.
