Fascinating Painted Faces

Peking Opera, a comprehensive form of stage art, is a well-known cultural symbol of China. Colorfully painted faces are renowned symbols of Peking Opera. Different colors of face paint come together to form a representation of each character's role, personality and destiny. As a result, these painted faces have become a key focus of Peking Opera-- attracting opera fans from all over the world. Recently, veteran opera artists of the Li Yuan Theatre organized an activity to teach foreigners operatic face painting.
Inside Li Yuan Theatre, artists arrived early to make preparations for the activity. Several foreign participants who had been drawn to the activity by the enticing opportunity to learn more about the colorful faces of Peking Opera, arrived soon afterwards.
The organizer of this activity is a former actor of the Peking Opera Theatre-Sun Zhencai. Since retiring, he has been devoting himself to the propagation of the art of Peking Opera.
Being an operatic player born in an operatic family, I conduct such activities not only because I can get joy from it but also because I 'd like to help more and more foreigners learn about Peking Opera. In this way, I want to promote the jewelry of Chinese culture- Peking Opera to the world.
As soon as a mom and her three kids arrived, two of her kids hurried to have the "Monkey Face" painted on them while the mom selected the face of " Zhang Fei". At first, the youngest daughter was not going to have her face painted, but when she saw one of the artists turning her sister into a "little monkey", she was tempted to have her face painted also.
We have yet to make to the opera. It has made it interested to coming. Seeing the painting and leaving story in the faces and everything. We'll probably come now. I want something a little bit wild and this is a wild warrior.
Since everyone is speaking different languages, communication is carried out merely through gestures and facial expressions. Most common among the foreign participants are expressions of surprise and delight over the face paintings. By the end, some foreigners were even painting faces for each other.
I've hear about pink opera before I came to Beijing. When I came here, actually went to this there. I want how to see Peking opera, and you have the English caption. So it's very good to understand Peking Opera. I like it very much, I like the music, I like the acrobatics, I like the Peking faces. And now I painted myself.

Our foreign friends seem to have a strong personal interest in Peking Opera. They may not understand Peking Opera completely after their first viewing of it, but after having its intricacies and meanings explained by professionals, they are able to learn more about the culture of Peking opera. This allows them to understand the depth and exquisite qualities of one form of Chinese art.
The activity is drawing to an end, but many foreign friends still remain. They have developed a keen interest in Peking opera after this activity and many of them have mentioned that, given the opportunity, they would like to come back again.

脸谱的魅力

京剧是我国的国粹之一，是一种舞台艺术的综合表现。而色彩斑斓的脸谱则是京剧的象征。在脸上涂以某种颜色，以象征这个人物的角色、品格和命运，这便是京剧的一大特点。对于喜爱京剧的外国友人来说，脸谱也是他们最感兴趣的。近期，梨园剧场的老京剧艺术家们就组织了一次教授外国人画脸谱的活动。
在梨园剧场内，老艺术家们早早的就到场了，为即将开始的活动做着准备。这时，前来参加活动的外国友人也陆续的到来了。多彩的脸谱一下就吸引住了他们的目光。
此次活动的组织者是原北京京剧院的演员孙振才先生。自退休以后，他就一直致力于京剧艺术的传播。
作为一个梨园世家搞京剧的人，我做这个一个是非常的高兴，另一个主要是宣传了中国的传统文化，把京剧推向世界，宣传我国的文化瑰宝。
有一位妈妈带着她的三个孩子刚一到，其中的两个孩子们就迫不及待的在脸上画脸谱了，妈妈则选中了张飞的扮相。而这个年纪比较小的孩子刚开始的时候就是不往脸上画，但是看到自己的姐姐一会的时间都变成小孙悟空了，她也没有禁得住诱惑，于是在京剧行家的手中，她也变成了一个小孙悟空。
我们虽然还不太了解京剧，但对此很感兴趣。（在这里能）看到脸谱并了解有关脸谱的一些故事。所以我们来到这里。我想要一点粗犷的感觉，这（张飞）就是一个剽悍的武士。
由于大家都说着不同的语言，所以彼此间的交流就靠着每一个动作和每一个眼神，当然更多的时候则是用着这一张张的脸谱来诉说他们的喜悦和新奇。最后，有一些外国朋友还相互画起来。
我在来北京之前对京剧有一个大概的了解。当我来到这里，事实上当我来到这剧院时，我想看京剧，而且，你们有英语字幕，因此能很好的理解京剧。我很喜欢京剧，喜欢那乐曲，喜欢那杂技和那些脸谱。而现在我已经在给自己画了。
借着这个愉快的气氛，来自北京京剧院的京剧演员还为大家表演了京剧《孙悟空》的片段。
他们（外国友人）对中国京剧我个人感觉是很感兴趣的。有时候，看完（京剧）之后，初看感觉不懂，我作为朋友去讲解，他就越觉得中国文化、中国京剧的文化底蕴相当深厚、艺术相当精湛。
活动即将结束，但是许多的外国友人还是迟迟没有离去，这次学画京剧脸谱的活动已经使他们对京剧产生了浓厚的兴趣，许多的外国友人都说，如果还有这样的机会，他们一定会再来。
