The Chinese New Year is just over a week away and that means the countdown has begun to the annual CCTV Spring Festival gala. The cast and crew are flat out putting the finishing touches on the spectacular.
The first rehearsal was on Monday in the CCTV studios and performers from more than 40 entertainment programs went through their singing, dancing and cross－talk paces. The show's director says he's adding new elements to the gala to make the production the best in 20 years.
The first CCTV gala show went to air in 1983. Now, watching the prime－time event has become a key part of the way Chinese welcome the New Year.
