In 1998, Dalian held the first international fashion festival in the country and since then the grand event has been held in the autumn every year. Autumn is the golden season of the year in the city, both because of the deciduous trees and the many trade related activities, cultural and tourist attractions.
The opening ceremony is named ‘Star, Moon and Sun’ and is divided into three discrete sections bearing those names. Star represents hope； moon represents great achievements, and sun represents a bright future.
Dalian has a fast－spreading reputation as the ‘Hong Kong of the Northern China’. The city lies on the southern tip of the Liaoning Peninsula and is known for its prosperous economy, advanced communications and technological development. Present day, Dalian is one of China’s largest ports. As a coastal city, Dalian is also famous for its excellent harbor, industry and trade, as well as wide range of tourist attractions.
Top international artists from all over the world performed at the festival. The festival debuted in 1998, and rode the wave of the strongest growth period in Dalian’s history. Its major aims are to enhance clothing design, and promote international exchange and economic development, thus drawing on Dalian City’s strong points. The past dozen years have seen the fashion festival bolster and be bolstered by Dalian’s strong economic and cultural trajectory.
