    China Children’s Choir, also known as The Children and Young Women’s Chorus of China National Symphony Orchestra, has been named as one of the world’s top seven Children’s Choirs. In Center Stage on the first of November, we will bring you their breath-taking performance held recently in Beijing. So please join us then.

    China Children’s Choir was founded in August 1983 by Mr. Yang Hongnian, a professor from the Conducting Department of China Central Conservatory of Music. In the past 20 year, the choir has left its footprints in places all over the globe. Their beautiful singing has won great acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

    Professor Yang Hongnian is a well-known China conductor. He has a profound knowledge and distinctive interpretation of music, and possesses a vast repertoire. His unique methods of choral training and his achievements in the extensive cultivation of young talent are highly praised and widely admired by Chinese and foreign experts of music.

    There are over 200 member currently in the choir, consisting of students from primary and middle schools in Beijing. During his 20 years of work for the choir, Yang Hongnian has tried very hard to teach these young members to master the skills of the three elements of chorus. That is: ensemble, intonation and balance. He has also made great efforts in helping the children to understand the meaning of teamwork and giving them a sense of responsibility.

    Under strict and scientific training, the China Children’s Choir has amassed a repertoire of over 500 famous Chinese and foreign pieces, ranging from Chinese children’s ballads, folk songs and pop songs to the classical choral works of Brahme, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Schumann.

    Since its establishment about 20 years ago, the choir has enjoyed increasing international prestige. It has won many international chorus awards. In 1996, the chorus participated in the 44th International Polyphonic Choral Competition held in Italy. The choir winning four titles in total, setting a new competition record for one choir winning four titles in one contest.
