Senior official of the Communist Party of China, Li Changchun, is in Tokyo on an official goodwill visit in Japan. And he has met with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso.

Li Changchun, member of the Standing committee of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, met with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso on Monday. They exchanged opinions on the development of bilateral relations and other issues of common concern.

Li said that both countries need to work to advance the China-Japan strategic relations of mutual benefit, and to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy and environmental protection as well as financial areas.

Li also met with Japanese economic representatives to discuss cooperation between the two countries in economy and trade. Li said the global financial downturn has damaged the world economy, including the economies of Japan and China. As the two main economic entities in Asia and the world, Li called on the two countries to work together to tackle the economic slowdown.
