ISLAMABAD, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan said on Wednesday night that it expressed deep regrets over Indian statement about the terror attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in eastern Pakistan.

At least seven persons including five policemen were killed and 19 others including seven Sri Lankan cricket players were injured in a terrorist attack in eastern Pakistan city of Lahore on Tuesday.

"Pakistan deeply regrets the spate of official statements from New Delhi on the Lahore terror attack, which tantamount to political point scoring over a hugely tragic incident," said a statement from Pakistan Foreign Ministry.

"Terrorism afflicts South Asia as a whole and warrants serious, sustained and pragmatic cooperation at the regional plane to combat it effectively, as affirmed by the SAARC Ministerial Council in Colombo recently," the statement said.

Indian reports said that Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday condemned the shootout in Lahore, saying the security of the players was "hopelessly inadequate".
