Eleven years ago, the DPRK put its first experimental satellite, the "Kwangmyongsong-1", into orbit.
Pyongyang's state run Korean Central News agency announced on Tuesday that preparations for the launch of the second satellite have been completed.
The DPRK has said in the past few weeks it has the right to develop a peaceful space program, centered on a multi-stage rocket.
But some are concerned that the country's latest move could actually be a test-launch of its longest-range missile.
