Chinese Vice President wraps up six-nation tour

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has wrapped up his six-nation tour in Malta and returned to Beijing. During his visit, the two countries signed a number of agreements on cooperation in economy, culture and judicature.

Xi Jinping arrived in the Maltese capital Valletta on Saturday for a two-day official visit.
On Sunday morning he told Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi that Sino-Maltese relations have stood the test of time.
He gave credit to mutual understanding and respect, seeking profound economic cooperation, and supporting each other on international affairs.
Xi Jinping said China wants to build on 37 years of diplomatic relations for new, fruitful results.
The Vice President said the first challenge to cope with is the financial crisis and he put forward a four-point proposal.
Xi Jinping advocated greater parliamentary exchanges and dialogue. He also encouraged finding new areas of economic and trade cooperation, on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
Xi Jinping stressed social ties, such as frequent exchanges in culture, education, public health and tourism. Xi Jinping said he believes Malta can act as a bridge to push Sino-European relations to a new high.
