The central government has granted subsidies of more than 87 and a half billion yuan to farmers in drought affected areas. The subsidies aim to ensure millions of hectares of crops are irrigated and spring ploughing can go ahead.

Officials with the Ministry of Finance say they will work to ensure a successful grain harvest and farmers' incomes.
The government will increase grain production subsidies further this year and tighten scrutiny of their use so that all farmers in drought hit areas can get financial assistance as soon as possible.
