British Premier apologizes for the incident: a matter of regret

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said the incident which disrupted Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's speech at Cambridge University was "a matter of regret".

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that in a letter to Wen, Brown lauded China-Britain relations and the achievements of Wen's European tour. He told the Premier his speech at Cambridge University left a deep impression on the audience, noting that the interruption was "a matter of regret" and that the police were dealing with the case in accordance with law.

Premier Wen's speech at Cambridge on Monday was disrupted by a 27-year-old man, who blew a whistle and hurled a sports shoe at him.
