The statement was issued on Monday after talks between Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in London. The statement reaffirms the two countries' determination to further develop their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Both sides say they will take necessary policy actions to foster sustainable economic growth and work together to improve the regulation of the global financial system to ensure its healthy functioning.

The two sides also reaffirm their commitment to open markets and free trade, agreeing that protectionist policies, through trade and investment barriers or competitive currency devaluations, would only serve to deepen the global recession.

On China-EU relations, both sides agree to make concerted efforts to promote their comprehensive strategic partnership.
