It's the first large-scale pro-government gathering since opposing crowds took over Bangkok's two airports earlier in the week. Supporters say they intend to stay at the rally point overnight to show their support for Somchai, ahead of a court ruling expected next week. The court could order the dissolution of Somchai's party, causing the government to fall.

Meanwhile, a leader of the opposition has met with Bangkok's police chief to discuss security around their rally site at Government House. The opposition agreed to hold joint patrols in the area, mixing its own security guards with the police.
