On the sidelines of the Apec meeting, President Hu Jintao met with the Colombian President, the prime minister of Papua New Guinea, and Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso.

During his meeting with Colombian President, Alvaro Uribe, Hu Jintao said China and Colombia have experienced new developments in their relations with closer exchanges of visits between the two governments, political parties and legislatures.

Hu Jintao put forward a four-point proposal for developing bilateral ties, including strengthening political relations, practical cooperation and broadening cultural and civilian exchanges. The proposal also calls for boosting cooperation in international and regional affairs.

President Uribe said he hoped the two countries could strengthen high-level contacts and consolidate mutual trust. He said he expects Chinese companies to invest in Colombia.
