| Emergency workers have found the body of another worker in the collapsed subway construction site in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. |
By Thursday, more than 6-thousand cubic meters of silt, more than half the total volume, had been cleared. Workers have also installed drainage equipment and cut off water supplies to surrounding areas to prevent any water from seeping in.
Initial investigations suggest construction was carried out without proper consideration of the geological situation of the site.
Wang Mengshu, Academician China Academy of Engineering, said, "The first reason for the collapse was that they were rushing to meet the deadline. The second reason was the lack of financial support. They were adopting the cheapest construction method, which was improper for the geological situation here."
