This is Li Changchun's second visit to CCTV International this year.

He came at a time when the station has just completed a series of special coverage on hot topics including the Beijing Olympics and China's first space walk on Shenzhou Seven.

Again, he was greeted by news anchor Edwin Maher.

Li Changchun thanked Edwin, saying he was aware of the contributions foreign employees make for the growth of the channel.

Li also toured the newsroom, and behind the broadcasting section, to see the work there.

Li Changchun said CCTV is China's state television station, and CCTV International is its only English channel. The whole station should speed up the pace of reaching out to the world, and more efforts should be made to make CCTV International more accessible to foreign audiences, and enabling the image and sound of China be received by foreigners. During this process, Li said media staff should study the requirements of foreign viewers, improve the quality of the programs, and develop a stable and growing base of loyal viewers.
