30th anniversary of historic China-Japan treaty marked

The Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Cui Tiankai, has held a reception to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty. This treaty is considered an important historic document in bilateral ties since the normalization of relations in 1972.

Ambassador Cui says the Treaty is a milestone in the history of Sino-Japanese ties. It has set the tone for the basic interest and long-term development of the two sides. The influence of the treaty has even surpassed the bilateral level, benefitted and will continue benefiting peace, stability and development in Asia and the world as a whole.

Cui says the current bilateral relationship is on a new historic level. He says China is willing to make joint efforts with Japan. And also willing to strengthen strategic and mutually beneficial ties.

Japanese chief cabinet secretary Takeo Kawamura praised the 30th anniversary of the Treaty's signing. He says 2008 is a meaningful and memorable year for bilateral ties.

Several political and economic figures of Japan also attended the reception.
