Heavy fog has blanketed large parts of north and east China, disrupting traffic in some regions.

People in Dongying in Shandong province woke up on Monday morning to find dense fog over the city. Visibility was only 30 meters. Vehicles queued for nearly two kilometers on a highway linking Shandong's Weihai city and Urumqi in the Northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Tianjin in North China and Liaoning province in northeast China also experienced heavy fog on Monday.

Meteorologists say the north of the country will see a sharp drop in temperatures of some ten degrees Celsius in the following two days.
