The invitation was extended by Hu Jinjun, director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination. He was giving an outline of cultural performances planned during the six-month Expo. Hong Hao, director general of the bureau, gave special emphasis to the idea that Hong Kong music writers might contribute -- saying he looks forward to their input.

Hong Kong lyricist Edmund Chan offered the hope the Hong Kong submissions will be romantic as well as ingenious.

Alan Tam, head of the Hong Kong Performing Artists Guild, promised that his organization would make every effort to support the initiative.

Tam voiced the hope that the compositions will incorporate the personal feelings of the songwriters. Headed by local singer Hacken Lee, the Hong Kong singers joined the chorus of "Beloved City", a popular World Expo song in 2007.
