At least two Cambodian soldiers were killed. Officials from both sides have downplayed the violence and called for resolving the conflict through talks.

The gun battle lasted about an hour on the border area on Wednesday afternoon.

Cambodia says in addition to the two dead, two other Cambodians were wounded, while the Thai army says five of its troops were wounded. Both sides claim the other fired first in the clash.

The conflict is the latest flare-up in a decades-long dispute over a contested stretch of jungle near the ancient Preah Vihear Temple.

The Cambodian government says it's seeking all diplomatic means available to solve the crisis.

Hor Namhong, Cambodian Foreign Minister, said, "There will be a meeting Thursday between our fourth regional commander and the second Thai regional commander to solve the problem, and I hope for progress toward a peaceful solution. We have agreed to have this meeting in Thailand as well."
