India-US nuclear agreement praised

US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has met with her Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi. Both sides praised a new agreement that green-lighted US nuclear trade with India.

Rice says no substantive issues now stand in the way of inking the deal, as the US Senate on Wednesday approved legislation authorizing President George W. Bush to sign. Mukherjee says New Delhi is satisfied with progress, and is waiting final action in Washington.

The agreement will allow US businesses to begin selling nuclear fuel, technology, and reactors to India, in exchange for UN inspections at India's civilian, but not military, nuclear plants.
