South Korea has expressed anger over Japan's renewed claim to a cluster of islets at the center of a long-running territorial dispute. On Friday, Japan approved a document that describes the disputed islands under South Korean control as Japanese territory. The islands are called Dokdo in Korean and Takeshima in Japanese.

S. Korean Foreign Ministry's spokesman, Moon Tae-Young says that, "Our government strongly protests against the Japanese government for describing Dokdo as Japan's own territory in a defense white paper announced on September the 5th and we demand Japan immediately make a correction."
The Deputy Chief of the Japanese Embassy Mission in Seoul Takahashi Reiichiro says, "Our stance regarding this issue is that we should recognize our differences in our position and that we want to work for the continued development of cooperative and friendly relations between our two countries."
