US vice president arrives in Ukraine for official visit

US Vice President Dick Cheney has arrived in Kiev, kicking off a two-day official visit to Ukraine.

Cheney is set to meet Friday with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. They'll discuss Ukrainian-US relations, cooperation in the energy sector and the situation in Georgia. He is also expected to voice support for Ukraine's efforts to join NATO.

The vice president's visit comes amid a political crisis in Ukraine triggered by the departure of a pro-presidential party from the governing coalition.
