WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush announced Thursday to provide an aid of 5.75 million dollars to war-torn Georgia.
In a memorandum for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Bush said the aid was meant to help Georgia meet "the humanitarian needs of conflict victims and those displaced by recent violence in Georgia."
"It is important to the national interest to furnish assistance under the Act, in an amount not to exceed 5.75 million from the United States Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund, for the purpose of meeting unexpected and urgent refugee and migration needs," Bush said.
Georgia, which has been engaged in military conflicts with Russia, has been a close U.S. ally.
