In a meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas, Wen Jiabao hailed the role of sports in promoting international friendship.

He said that the Chinese men's basketball team was led by a Lithuanian coach, and that many coaches from China were also working in other countries. This shows that sports goes beyond borders, promoting friendship between peoples of different countries.

Kirkilas congratulated Wen and China for hosting a very successful Olympic Games, and praised Chinese athletes for their excellent performance.

He said Lithuania is ready to strengthen cooperation with China and work more closely in international affairs.

Wen Jiabao also met with Latvian Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis.

Wen said China is glad to see that the Beijing Games has contributed to promoting unity, friendship and exchanges between people of various countries.

Godmanis said he had visited China in 1995, and he found the changes that have taken place in Beijing since then amazing.
