| Typhoon Nuri has been downgraded to a tropical storm after making landfall in southern China. |
Before hitting the mainland, Nuri shut down most of Hong Kong on Friday. It was the largest typhoon to hit the special administrative region in five years. Although it has now weakened, it still disrupted hundreds of flights around the Pearl River Delta and Macau, leaving three people dead in south China's Guangdong province.
Forecasters say the storm is likely to weaken further as it moves northwestward, bringing torrential rain in its wake.
