Special Report: 2008 Beijing Olympic GamesAs the Beijing Olympics approaches, celebrations are going on in other countries. In Thailand, local Chinese singers gave a concert before a packed house of 2000 on Sunday. The tickets were in such high demand a second concert was added, for Monday.

About 150 performers celebrated the Beijing Olympics. They gave a rousing cheer for Thai athletes who will compete in the games. Four years ago, at the Athens Olympics, Thailand won 3 gold medals. This time, the Thais are confident of four gold medals, in men's boxing, women's weightlifting, men's badminton and women's taekwondo.

The Bangkok concerts were sponsored by well known local Chinese entrepreneur Chen Hanshi. The 73-year-old also read a poem expressing his joy and excitement for the Beijing Olympics. Mr.Chen emigrated to Thailand from Shantou in south China in 1963. He runs the world's second largest tuna can factory. Mr.Chen was twice an Olympic torch bearer. The first time was in Bangkok, April 19th. Then on May 10th, he took up the Olympic torch in his hometown of Shantou. He will also be joining the Olympics opening ceremony, August 8th, in Beijing.
