Russia warns against missile defense plan of Washington

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has told Washington its missile defense plan in Eastern Europe will provoke counter measures. And he said such a plan would only harm regional security.

Medvedev says Russia will be forced to make a response to the deployment of the proposed shield. Washington wants to establish an anti-ballistic missile shield in Central and Eastern Europe, including interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar station in the Czech Republic.

Moscow says the plan will undermine the region's strategic balance and threaten its national interests.
