Senior Party leader: Supervision is key to successful Games

At the Bird's Nest Stadium, He Guoqiang said the venue should operate at its highest capability as befits one of the city's top landmarks and the centerpiece of the Games.
At the nearby Water Cube, the venue for the swimming and diving events, He Guoqiang said transparent management of the site and budget must be in place to guarantee the smooth operation of the stadium, as the site's construction was financed mainly by donations from people in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese.
He also called for a quality accommodation service for all international athletes.
In a meeting with officials from the organizing committee and the Beijing municipal government, the top discipline inspector of the Communist Party of China noted that supervision is the key to a successful Games. He said the preparation over the past few years has proved that the supervision committee's work is necessary for the Games to be successful.
He Guoqiang also required a complete check on the construction quality of all Olympic venues ahead of the opening, and a continuous check on the Games' budget to ensure a clean and economical Olympics.
