Nearly two months after the magnitude-8.0 quake, excavation and cleaning have started in Beichuan.
Over 300 workers from Chengdu were at the Beichuan County Archives on Wednesday, salvaging the antiques and the files. The job is expected to take three days. So far, more than 4,000 items have been rescued. The 6-storey archive building contains over 70,000 files and antiques.
The director says the rescued files will be sent to the Mianyang City Archives. He says it will take four to five years to pack up the huge amount of materials.
