Chinese state councilor meets UN secretary-general

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon here on Wednesday.
Praising Ban's job as UN chief, Dai said China highly values UN's important role in dealing with common challenges for the humankind.

He voiced continuous support for the UN, adding China is to cement cooperation with it to promote a harmonious world with long-lasting peace and common prosperity.
In response, Ban said UN enjoys broad consensus with China on many important issues, and attaches great importance to its cooperation with China in various areas.
The world peace and development is inseparable from China, and the settlement of major international and regional issues also cannot work without China, he added.
Ban expected to work closely with China to build a bright future for the world.
The UN chief arrived in Beijing Tuesday afternoon for a three-day official visit to China at the invitation of the Chinese government.
Ban had visited the Yingxiu township in Wenchuan County to speak to earthquake survivors on May 24.
