Special Report:   Strong quake jolts SW China

Performing troupes in China have joined together to bring entertainment to the people of quake ravaged Sichuan. Entertainment is something the people there need, in addition to food supplies and cash. The entertainers, with their songs and dances make an important contribution to bringing light to people devastated by shock and grief.

The artists formed a group called "Heart Links Heart." Artistic troupes formed three squads and fanned out across Sichuan.

One group, comprised of 15 performers from national troupes, arrived in a settlement in Dujiangyan, bringing inspiration and hope to the people there.

The renowned singer Wan Shanhong and popular young star Siqingerile, led a dozen other artists,in bringing good cheer to Yingxiu, in Wenchuan county.

Residents and soldiers agreed the shows helped to bring life back to the town were the quake's epicentre was located.

Another art group went to Mianyang, to give soldiers a special treat. The soldiers here, are spearheading relief efforts in Beichuan and Mianyang.

Artists, including sketch actor Huang Hong and tenor Dai Yuqiang, improvised performances relating to the quake and the phenomenal achievements of soldiers during the rescue and relief work.
