Hunan Province saw another round of heavy rain on Monday. One county recorded a maximum rainfall of 187mm in one day. But rivers in the province remain below the warning level because of previous drought.
The situation in Jiangsu is different, where flood control is crucial. The province has already suffered four downpours. Rivers and reservoirs are near overflowing, and drainage sluices have been opened.
Nearby provinces like Anhui are also being swamped. Local authorities are closely monitoring water levels of the main rivers.
The Central Meteorological Station says heavy rainfall will continue between the Huaihe River valley and the south of the Yangtze River in the next few days. Weather officials say the rainbelt will shift northward and the probability of flooding in the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers is high.
