Summer storms and floods continue to submerge parts of China, especially along the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers. More warnings have just been issued for heavy downpours in areas south of the Yangtze River in the coming days.

Authorities say the flood control work is very crucial as the rainy season approaches.

Storms lashed Anhui province on Sunday. The low-lying Tongling City and surrounding areas were partially flooded. But the Anhui sections of the Huaihe and Yangtze rivers remained below warning level. Sluice channels at major reservoirs have been opened to drain excess water.

Zhejiang province suffered a fourth downpour on Sunday, washing out many crop fields. The rain was the heaviest since 1999. The province is reinforcing reservoirs and carrying out precautionary work to prevent flooding and landslides.

After a few days of hot weather, another round of rain began on Sunday in central China's Hunan province. The provincial meteorological department issued a red level warning for some counties and townships which were hardest hit by rain and wind.

Rainfall also swept Chongqing Municipality and parts of Hubei and Hebei provinces. Floods occurred in Hubei's mountainous counties of Luotian and Yingshan, damaging large areas of cropland.

Meanwhile hot continued in Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces. Both had been severely hit by recent storms. The hot weather is believed to be caused by typhoon "Fengshen," which expects to enter the South China Sea on Tuesday.

Authorities say the flood control work is very crucial as the rainy season approaches.

Weather Forecasters say the rain belt will swing between the Huaihe River valley and south of the Yangtze River in the next ten days or so.
