| In Sichuan's earthquake-hit Pingwu County, PLA troops are helping to rebuild damaged transport links. |
Only a day after the May 12th earthquake, these PLA paratroopers reached Nanbai township in Pingwu county, one of the worst-hit mountainous areas in Sichuan.
Local villagers say when the quake struck, the bridge across the Peijiang River collapsed, leaving the village completely cut off from the outside.
Some locals swum across the river to escape from the disaster's destruction.
Building a new bridge was a pressing task for rescue and relief workers.
To speed up the process, soldiers stood in the rapidly flowing water for more than 20 hours every day.
They built a new bridge in only four days.
